🧠 Staying in Flow: PiP, MiniTimer & Smarter Focus

Launching a new feature always brings a bit of nervous excitement, especially when it completely changes how you interact with the app. And this update does just that.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about how to make Breakpoints experience more fluid, more invisible, more… natural. The goal isn’t for the app to demand your attention all the time, but to be just present enough to keep you focused, and discreet enough not to break your rhythm.

That’s where these three major additions come in:

🎥 Picture-in-Picture (PiP): the floating timer

You can now pop out the timer and keep it floating while working in other windows. Perfect if you’re in VS Code, Figma, or even watching something while studying. The PiP window doesn’t show up in alt-tab or the taskbar (on Windows), so it doesn’t interrupt your visual flow, it simply stays with you, subtly.

🧭 MiniTimer: continuous focus as you navigate

Sometimes you leave the main timer screen to tweak settings or explore the app (yes, new screens are coming soon 👀), but still want to keep track of time. Now the MiniTimer stays fixed at the top of the interface in those moments. It’s subtle but functional, just like it should be.

🎵 Automatic media control

This one came from a personal pain point: every time a focus session started, I found myself manually pausing the music. Now, the app takes care of that, it pauses your audio when the session begins and resumes it when it ends. Of course, you can disable this if you prefer.

💫 The little details that make a difference

On top of the bigger features, I also added a new animation to the timer digits. It might seem like a small thing, but seeing the numbers change smoothly makes the whole experience feel more polished and satisfying.

These updates are an important step toward making Breakpoints a true focus companion, one that works with you, not against you.

If you’re also looking to tap into the flow state more often throughout your day, I hope these updates help you as much as they’ve helped me.
